Wednesday Weigh-In + first OA meeting

 I'm trying to think of a funnier looking fruit to have for breakfast and I've got nothing.

WAIT--dragon fruits hold up a tough competition, eh? In fact, they probably win.

Have I ever told you what my mother says about pomegranates?

She says that back home people use them to stone dogs and she laughs that in this country people buy the fruits, the juice, and get all excited about antioxidants. Only, my pronounces it “pramganatee.”  And when I told her it's “pomegranate," she almost believed me until she called her sister who verified the wrong pronunciation. My mother also asked her sister, "What happened to the pramganatee tree that papa had?" Apparently, they had a pomegranate tree my grandfather cut down when he was expanding their house many years ago, when I was still dirt.

But I don't know why I'm telling you this. What I mean to say is that today is my first Overeaters Anonymous meeting. It's at 12:15.  I'm nervous.

The first time I heard about OA was when I saw an ad on the bus three years ago. I googled for meeting places and asked a large girlfriend of mine to come with me. She didn't want to, but she told me to take notes to share. Isn't she funny? I forgot about OA until Rosa mentioned it on her blog a couple months ago. Once again I googled meeting places and asked another large girlfriend to come with me. But she also wasn't interested so I'm finally going alone today. I'm excited. I'll share how it goes.

It's my first weigh-in of the new year! I said a couple weeks ago that I would start weighing in on Sundays, but scratch that because something about Wednesdays feel right.

Today I'm 227.2 pounds
Previous weigh-in, December 22nd: 224 pounds
Gain: 3.2  I think I'm a little bloated from my period because I was 225 just a couple days ago.

Highest weight - 236 pounds
Goal weight - 150 pounds

Since I want to use this blog to keep myself accountable, I'm committing to weigh-ins every single week, even if I gain.

Here are my four goals for this week:
(1.) Exercise everyday. I'm taking an Ultimate Conditioning class with my gym friend tonight.
(2.) 1200-1500 calories per day
(3.) Water! I'm so bad at making sure I get enough so I'm keeping a log.
(4.) Sleep. I've been getting to bed so late that I feel like death in the morning. I'm going to try for 10-11 p.m.

Gotta get ready to go!

i have never heard of OA. i am excited to here your reflections on it. what great goals! best of luck. i am saying this with complete love i feel exercising every day might be a hard goal to attain though i do believe being active every day which might mean one or two days a week just doing some stretches in front of the tv or taking a short walk, nonetheless, i just want you to be successful.

also i love your moms pomegranate story. i have one for a snack so very excited.

I have never heard of OA...good luck!! I want to know how it goes.

Oh and every time I eat a Pomegranate I'll giggle..thanks for sharing that story :-)

thanks, jill. completely agree: exercising everyday doesn't have to go aggressive exercise. and it isn't too hard a goal since i'm not in school right now. so really, i have no excuse! thanks :)

EVERYONE, thanks for you comments. JUST CAME BACK FROM MEETING: it was really good. i'm glad i went as i felt really at home. i'm looking forward to my next meeting. it really wasn't anything to be afraid of. --love, me.

darn it! you mentioned OA to me and I completly forgot about it - looking forward to hearing more about it in tomorrows post so I can learn more said...

You have the same stat/goal weight as me. :) I also lack water intake and sleep (my goal is 10-11pm as well lol). How is it I can drink all the sweet tea in the world, but give me a bottle of water and I can't seem to get through it? Good luck with your goals this week!

Stick to your purpose. It can only get better from here. And I like your background. I want to print it and color it.

Yayee, I'm glad that it was a comfortable experience! I went to one meeting several years ago, and it was sort of weird, actually. But I had been wanting to start going again, maybe try a different location - and this time, be more involved and less in my head and freaked out like last time. I guess it was weird because of the rules like "We only call food - the sugar - " did they talk like that, too?

Yay, I'm glad it went well!!! Things like that (meetings, etc) get me soooo nervous. But you did it! I hope you get a lot of support and practical advice from OA...

I have never heard of OA before, but that's pretty interesting I can't wait to hear your thoughts and feedback. I think you have some pretty good goals going on for you. I am looking to drop some weight too. I gained a little too much back after my wedding last year. Oh and I wouldnt worry about weight too much if its that time of the month... When its mine i gain 10+ YUCK!
